Catholic Central Welcomes Students

As kids all over the area were preparing to go back to school, the 3rd-12th graders at Catholic Central were as excited as ever to start the year on one campus, with the high school students learning their way around a new, two-story, 15-classroom wing added to the rear of the existing building. The project also featured a new multi-purpose room that will be used as an auxiliary gymnasium and cafeteria for the elementary students, administrative space, renovated locker rooms, weight room, and a beautiful new entrance for the athletic facilities and spirit shop. Construction is currently underway to renovate the High Street entrance, adding a chapel and accessible entrance. The second phase of the project is scheduled for completion this winter.

The high school addition was located on a challenging topographical site, and with its proximity to the existing school building much precaution had to be taken on the job site. Kapp Construction was chosen because of its experience with church and school construction, as well as its expertise with multi-phase projects with tight schedules requiring continuous operations in the facility. Paired with McCall Sharp Architecture, the design-build team worked efficiently, providing the best local talent to the project.

The 34,500-square-foot addition was completed in 12 months, one month ahead of schedule, despite a brutal Midwestern winter. Using a steel frame structure allowed erection to continue through the coldest part of the winter, minimizing the need for tenting and heating large areas.

When asked about their satisfaction with the project, Pete Dunlap, president/CEO of Catholic Central School, said it best: “From designing the construction schedule around our school schedule, to the attention to detail in creating a safe environment with the children in mind, it was a great experience working side-by-side with both McCall Sharp Architecture and Kapp Construction.”

Foreman-Blair Buick GMC Dealership Celebrates New Showroom

Please join us as we roll out the red carpet and celebrate with Foreman-Blair Buick, GMC, Cadillac and the Greater Springfield Chamber of Commerce at Business After Hours on Thursday, November 1.

Jim Foreman has witnessed much change at his location on E. Columbia Street since becoming a General Motors dealer in October of 1970. His dealership has received many accolades over the years and has maintained a reputation as one of the most outstanding automobile dealers in the area. In 1982, the showroom greeted customers with a warm and inviting atmosphere – receiving a renovation that made it the most up-to-date showroom in Springfield. Exactly 30 years later, Foreman has just completed facility upgrades that were rolled out by GM for dealerships nationwide. The Essential Brand Elements (EBE) program is an effort by GM to improve the appearance of all dealerships, creating uniformity among the brands.

Kapp Construction was selected to renovate Foreman-Blair Buick, GMC, Cadillac and bring it up to the new EBE standards. Kapp remodeled 4,000 square-feet, giving the showroom, service drive and interior customer areas a complete face lift, along with the exterior façade. With all new energy-efficient lighting, new storefront windows with energy-efficient glass and additional insulation above the showroom area, Foreman-Blair is excited about their updated facility

“We are delighted how it has turned out. Kapp Construction has been great to work with and have not caused us one bit of delay. Kapp worked days or nights as needed to not disrupt our business,” said Foreman. “We knew our facility needed updated, and the energy and excitement gained from this project has been outstanding”.
