Rocking Horse Center Pays It Forward

This morning marks the beginning of an exciting chapter for the Rocking Horse Center as they start the process to expand their operations with a new permanent facility. For nearly a year, the Rocking Horse Center has been working out of a modular in addition to their current facility on South Limestone to keep up with the ever-‐growing needs of the community.

Mike Battaglia of Kapp Construction was aware of the over-‐crowded situation at the Rocking Horse center last year and knew of a modular building that Super Value in Xenia was no longer using and were willing to donate. After nearly a year of using the modular building, new grant funding has allowed the center to look towards building a new permanent facility.

No longer having use for the modular, the center knew they wanted to donate it to another non-‐profit organization within the community. Kapp Construction was in discussion with the Boy Scouts about replacing the first aid lodge at Camp Birch, and it became apparent that this modular would be just the right size for what they needed. “Kapp Construction identified the need in both situations,” said Dana Engle, executive director of the Rocking Horse Center.

“Kapp was instrumental in finding the building for the Rocking Horse Center and now for the Boy Scouts. Just like it was passed to us, we are in turn passing it along to the Boy Scouts.”

The two modules will be dropped off at Camp Birch this morning. Removal of the module building is the first step towards breaking ground on the new center, which is scheduled for September.
