GLOBAL IMPACT STEM ACADEMY > SPRINGFIELD, OHIO
Global Impact STEM Academy (GISA) is part of a consortium of Clark County Schools that was awarded an $11.3 million state grant to renovate the former South High School, allowing GISA to have a state-of-the-art facility in a building that had been sealed and unoccupied for more than 5 years. The plan for renovation modernized the 115,000-square-foot space to accommodate a high school serving 350 students, with provisions for future expansion for seventh and eighth grade. Program requirements included 10 classrooms, 4 science labs, a cafetorium, administrative offices, greenhouse, and several interactive, flexible mutli-use spaces.
Kapp Construction was selected as the Design-Build team for phase one, and the Construction Manager-at-Risk for the renovation of the 103-year-old building. The first two floors of the south wing of the former South High School, now named “The Dome,” were gutted to create the new home for GISA. The building’s large windows have been opened up to provide the classrooms with natural lighting, and new, efficient mechanical systems provide immaculate indoor air quality. The new facility provides universal accessibility and access to the latest technology in teaching.
