MCAULEY CENTER BEHAVIORAL UNIT > URBANA, OHIO

Kapp Construction was selected in June of 2017 to partner with Mercy Health and App Architecture to lead the design-build construction of a behavioral health unit for senior care in the McAuley Center on the campus in Urbana, OH. The project consisted of complete demolition of one wing of the existing nursing home facility to construct a unit that conformed to behavioral health care standards for inpatient care.

The team was able to work with the local building officials to greatly accelerate the design of the unit to have the building permit in just six weeks from the start of design. Kapp Construction led a team of contractors that completed the construction of the project in under five months. The unit included secure entry points, anti-ligature hardware and fixtures, all new electrical systems, new HVAC units, and a re-configuration of the sprinkler system. The schedule was a challenge as it had to be complete by the end of November to have certification for the following calendar year.

During construction, the remaining three wings of the nursing home remained occupied. The renovated space includes new cabinetry with solid surface tops, new LED lighting, and calming colors.
