CMHP WELL CHILD PEDIATRICS > URBANA, OHIO

Community Mercy Health Partners selected Kapp Construction to lead the construction for this 8,500 sf state-of-the-art pediatric facility. This beautiful brick building was designed around an ocean theme, featuring corrugated metal siding that mimics the hull of a boat. The goal in the design was to create a less threatening environment for children, putting them more at ease and comfortable with their medical care.

Providing much needed pediatric care to the residents of Urbana and Champaign County, the new clinic houses nine exam rooms, an education conference room, and two behavioral therapy rooms. The interior features specialty anti-microbial paint, detailed case work, a modern ocean-themed entry area and kid-sized fixtures throughout. Maximum energy efficiency was considered for every green building detail incorporated, and a cost/benefit analysis was performed for each LEED element.

Originally designed as a stand-alone facility adjacent to Mercy Memorial Hospital, the clinic’s location was relocated to a vacant shopping center that sits on the southeast edge of downtown Urbana just before construction started. Changing locations required drawing revisions, structural changes, and lease negotiations that delayed the start of the project by more than two months. However, the completion date still had to be met due to funding requirements. Community Mercy Health Partners, App Architecture, and Kapp Construction worked closely together to fast-track the project and compress the schedule, successfully completing the renovation on time and under budget.
