Renovations to Historic Clark County Building
A grand opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony were held this Spring at the historic A.B. Graham Building in downtown Springfield, Ohio. Kapp Construction was honored to be a part of the preservation and transformation of this 100-year-old building.
The $2.5 million renovation project included new heating and cooling systems throughout the building, modernized electrical wiring, a fire suppression system, plumbing, and a new elevator to make the building handicapped accessible. The aging interior was also reconfigured into more efficient office and meeting spaces.
Throughout the transformation, many of the iconic architectural details were saved and restored, including the brass staircase, the marble walls and stairs, the woodwork, and several of the county office doors. Clark County Commissioner Lowell McGlothin said, “It’s wonderful to save an old building and give it a new purpose.”
The A.B. Graham Building, named after the founder of 4-H, is home to four county offices—the treasurer, the auditor, the recorder, and the tax maps department—as well as the Clark County Common Pleas Court Domestic Relations Court.
This extensive project also included renovations to the Springview Government Center, which was purchased in 2005. The third floor had remained unoccupied since the building’s purchase and required renovations before the Board of Clark County Commissioners could relocate there. Moving their offices out of the A.B. Graham Building allowed several other government offices to move in and operate under the same roof.
