New School-Based Health Center Opens in Springfield City School District
The Springfield City School District has launched a new School-Based Health Center (SBHC) to provide critical health services for its 7,700 students, their families, and the local community. Located at Springfield High School, the SBHC offers primary care, mental health services, vaccinations, vision and dental care, and health screenings. As a Federally Qualified Health Center, it serves all patients, regardless of their ability to pay.
Opened for the 2024-2025 school year, the SBHC ensures students from preschool through grade 12 can access care with parental consent. Research shows that SBHCs improve student attendance and academic performance, making this facility a valuable resource for Springfield, where over 20% of residents live below the poverty line.
Governor Mike DeWine, who attended the ribbon-cutting ceremony on August 12, praised the SBHC for its potential to positively impact students’ health and academic outcomes. The $2.4 million, 5,000-square-foot project was managed by Kapp Construction, and the facility is operated by Rocking Horse Community Health Center, a trusted local provider.
